The Directory below is a service of NVIC to assist those who are vaccine injured and the parents of vaccine injured children when searchingfor a law firm to assist in filing in the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program or in civil court. This directory may help you choose an attorney to evaluate your individual situation and determine if you have legal grounds to file a claim in the U.S. District Court of Washington, D.C. under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 that created the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) or file a vaccine-related product liability or malpractice claim in civil court. Most of the attorneys who have asked to be listed in NVIC's Law Firm Directory have experience in the area of vaccine injury law. Some have more experience than others. A questionnaire was mailed to attorneys seeking a listing in NVIC's Vaccine Law Firm Directory and they were charged a fee for being listed. This Directory does not contain a list of all the lawyers in the U.S. who handle vaccine injury cases but it is a good place to begin. The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program is a federal program and you do not need to hire an attorney who lives in your state to be your legal representative in the U.S. Court of Claims. This allows you to go outside of your state to hire the lawyer in the nation who best suits your needs. Each attorney may have a different way of dealing with fees and costs and you should find out what costs are involved before you hire an attorney. You may need to engage experts to evaluate medical records, costs of depositions, transportation, photocopying, etc. Be sure to carefully discuss this with any prospective attorney so you are not surprised by bills you did not anticipate and have determined ahead of time how the bills will be paid.
