| Reaction Description |
Within 4 hours of his fourth DPT shot, I found him sitting in a chair, pale, staring straight ahead as if he couldn't see me. I called out his name and his eyes rolled back in his head and his head fell sideways onto his shoulder as if he had fallen asleep sitting up. I couldn't wake him so I carried him to his bed. He felt like a dead weight in my arms. He stayed in his bed without moving for hours. When I was finally able to wake him he was disoriented and couldn't speak coherently or sit up or stand by himself. He had severe diarrhea and then slept deeply for 12 more hours. In the days and weeks after, he regressed physically, mentally and emotionally and was constantly sick and no longer could do the things he could do before his vaccination. |
| Current Health Problems |
Before his 4th DPT shot in 1980, my son was an exceptionally alert, focused and content child who was developmentally ahead of other children his age. He started saying words at 7 months, was speaking in full sentences by age two, could identify the upper and lower case alphabet and numbers up to 20 and had memorized most of the 52 cards in the deck so he could play a naming game with them. After the shot, he no longer knew the alphabet, would not play with his cards and could not concentrate for more than a few seconds at a time. He changed from a high energy, happy, motivated child to a sad, sometimes angry and frustrated child. By age 7, he was diagnosed with multiple learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder, including dyslexia, fine and gross motor and short term memory delays, auditory processing deficit and other developmental delays. He was placed in a self contained classroom for the learning disabled, where he remained through elementary, junior high and high school. |
