Biologics R Vaccines: Beware of “Informed Consent”

informed consent

New medical consent forms being given to patients in hospitals, doctors’ offices and other medical facilities are often asking for permission to administer “biologics”. Although this is not explicitly stated on the forms, vaccines are biologics. Once you give consent for “biologics to be given to you or your child, any vaccine deemed necessary by doctors or other medical personnel may be administered without specifically asking you or informing you ahead of time.

You have the legal right to refuse medical procedures and pharmaceutical products, including any type of vaccine. During a hospital stay, it is important to write and sign a statement declining vaccinations and communicate directly with medical personnel about your decision to not receive vaccines during a hospital stay. This is particularly important in the newborn nursery where hepatitis B vaccinations are routinely given to infants shortly after birth or just before discharge. You should also clarify your vaccine and other treatment decisions with doctors before going under anesthesia for surgery.

Because vaccines are considered by public health officials and medical trade associations to be safe for everyone, medical personnel administering vaccinations tend to downplay the importance of obtaining informed consent. However, vaccines can cause severe reactions, permanent injury or death, and there are both known and unknown genetic, biological and environmental risk factors that make some individuals more susceptible to being harmed by vaccination.

The legal right to exercise informed consent to medical risk taking stems from the ethical principle of autonomy and is a protection against violation of human rights in the medical system. Vaccines are pharmaceutical products that carry a risk of injury or death, and individuals have the right to make a voluntary decision about whether to accept those risks.
