Welcome! We recently created the Vaccine Failure Wall as a way for the community to share their experiences with vaccine failure. Vaccines can sometimes fail to provide protection against the infectious disease they were designed to prevent. Do you have a vaccine failure story to share? Click here to complete our Vaccine Failure Reporting Form.  Your personal identity will be kept confidential.

Below you will also find stories shared by others that are listed in chronological order, with the most recent at the top. You're among the first to visit our Vaccine Failure Wall, so it may take a couple weeks for the initial stories to post. We appreciate your patience as this new feature of our website begins to  document the public's stories!

If you had a reaction to a vaccine or have been the subject of vaccine harassment, please click here to access those reporting options.

Failure
I was given the MMR vaccines as a child, then again at age 31 as I was trying to get pregnant and did not show having rubella antibodies. I got rubella within 2 weeks of being vaccinated and had to be quarantined for 2 weeks. I was extremely ill for 1 month. In January 2016 I got measles.

My daughter was 2 months old (1/9/2012) with the first dose of rotovirus immunization and 5 months old (4/11/2012) with the 2nd dose. She officially got the rotovirus on June 12 2012.

Failure
The Salk vaccine was made available in the Spring of 1956 at P.S. 199 in Brooklyn, New York and we were given three injections, one month apart. Three of us became very ill after receiving the vaccine. I remember being violently ill, stiff and bedridden for three days. Another girl, named Linda, who lived one block away, was ill enough to be sent to hospital and returned after some time suffering from a permanent limp. A third child, a boy, was also sent to hospital but we did not know his name or the outcome. As an adult (in 1989) I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and the symptoms I experienced very much resembed those I recall experiencing back at the time of the vaccine. I am sure I was ill many years before my diagnoses, but I'm not sure when it first began. I often had what was described as "growing pains" in my legs, as a child. In addition, about one year before the polio vaccine was made available, I was bitten by a dog and underwent fourteen anti-rabies injections at the Board of Health in downtown Brooklyn. I don't know if these vaccinations had any affect on my system, especially being given in such close proximity to the polio vaccine.

Failure
I routinely had tetanus vaccinations every ten years, as recommended by my doctors. After one vaccination, my arm hurt more than usual, and I had trouble moving it for an entire month, it was so sore. I went back to my internist a week later, and he felt the huge lump and saw my limited motion and said I should never have another tetanus vaccination. In 2003, before going on a trip to the Middle East, I was told I must have a titer test to prove I had tetanus immunity. The allergist confirmed I did, said that one shot usually lasts a lifetime, citing studies on soldiers in WW 11. He told me ideally I should never have another tetanus shot, though if I cut myself and went to the E/R, they would give me one no matter what I said. Fortunately that has not happened.

Failure
I was a foot and ankle surgeon in a busy multi specialty clinic in 2006.I worked out of an urgent care and it was a very busy flu year,at times 100 people a day were coming through.Flks would even be laying on the floor waiting to be seen.Out of an abundance of caution someone administratively mandated that everyone in our work area had to get a second booster of influenza that season.I received mine and had a one month steady rapid decline in health with flu like symptoms. The flu symptoms went away but I developed progressive weakness ,and almost inability to walk up stairs, cold intolerance, axial and skeletal myopathy of unknown etiology.I had cancer chemo 20 years before and Mayo clinic thought it might have been related but no evidence.I was forced to quit doing surgery and eventually over a terrible 1.5 year struggle ,I lost my practice, most friends whom were my colleagues and my health.I have piece mealed my life back together and volunteer a couple days a week.No one will hire me of course.I was 47 at the time this all happened.I got to practice about 13 years after my training but the lingering question was this all because of a flu shot gone bad? Numerous specialists could not clearly diagnose and some only admitted in retrospect that it was a partial GBS and has left me with permanent neurological damage.
