Who is at highest risk for suffering complications from Mumps?

Adults are more likely to suffer complications from mumps infection.1 As well, pregnant women may also be at a higher risk of miscarriage should infection occur early in pregnancy.2
Complications from mumps infection are rare but can lead to hearing loss, pancreatitis, swelling of the ovaries in women, swelling of the testicles in post-pubertal males, meningitis and encephalitis.3
